The CREO Prize is an honorary award presented annually since 2007 by the German Society for Creativity (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kreativität e. V.) to individuals or institutions that have demonstrated exceptionally creative achievements or sustainable actions in line with the organisation’s mission. The award cannot be applied for — recipients are nominated by a jury.
The name CREO comes from the Latin phrase “creo ergo sum” (“I create, therefore I am”). A unique transparent box containing the certificate and artistic cards about the laureate is handed over as the award. All boxes are designed by media design students at the Technical Vocational College in Solingen under the guidance of Lisa Gallo. The award ceremony is typically held around September 5th, in remembrance of psychologist Joy Paul Guilford and his seminal 1950 address on creativity.
